Why 3D Printing Is the Right Choice for This Part

Every so often someone comments that a steering nozzle extension shouldn't be 3D printed, or that the price is too high for a printed part. I understand the reaction, so let me explain why 3D printing is not a shortcut here. It is the reason this product exists at a fair price, and why I can stand behind how it performs.

Why not injection molding?

Injection molding is excellent when you produce tens of thousands of identical parts. But it comes with heavy upfront costs. You pay thousands to have a steel mold made before a single part exists, and you commit to large minimum runs. That means holding stock of every size, every color, and every ski model in advance, tying up money in inventory that may sit for months.

For a specialized part like this, serving a focused community of riders, those costs would land on you, the customer. Injection molding would make this part more expensive, not less, until the volumes are enormous.

Why 3D printing keeps the value high

Printing on demand changes the equation. I make parts as orders come in, so there is no dead stock and no warehouse to finance. That efficiency is part of what keeps the price where it is.

It also lets me develop properly. Before any product goes on the shop, there are hours of CAD design, printing prototypes, testing the fit on the actual ski, and refining the part until it is right. If a new model needs a different fitment, I can adapt quickly instead of committing to a mold I cannot change. You end up with a part that has been genuinely designed and tested, not rushed to hit a production minimum.

Hours per part, not seconds

Here is a timelapse of a nozzle extension being printed. It looks quick because it is compressed. In reality each part takes around 4 to 6 hours to print, laid down layer by layer.

That time matters. This is not a part stamped out in a second. It is manufactured individually, then checked before it ships.

The material: ASA, not hobby plastic

A lot of the doubt about 3D printing comes from PLA, the common hobby filament that goes soft in a hot car and degrades in sunlight. I do not use PLA. These extensions are printed in ASA, an engineering-grade material chosen specifically for this environment. ASA is UV resistant and holds up to saltwater, which is exactly what a PWC part faces.

I have tested this myself, not in theory. My parts have spent long sessions under intense Dubai sun and in the very salty water of the Gulf. They have not faded, cracked, or degraded.

Strength, tested the hard way

I set out to break one. I rode for hours in rough water, jumped, and landed tail-first from high jumps, doing everything I could to snap the extension or lose it off the nozzle. After many sessions it is still there and still performing. That is the real test for a part like this, and it passed.

Printed on professional equipment

The parts are produced on top-tier Bambu Lab printers with settings I have refined specifically for strength and finish. The wall thickness, the layer bonding, the orientation on the plate, all of it is dialed in so the part comes out consistent and strong, not like something run off with default settings.

3D printing is not a gimmick anymore

Functional 3D printed parts are increasingly standard in demanding fields. Motorsport teams run printed components on race cars. Aerospace uses printed parts in real aircraft. The technology has moved well past prototypes and trinkets into genuine end-use production, precisely because it allows strong, precise, purpose-built parts without the cost of mass tooling.

What you are actually paying for

The price reflects real inputs: engineering-grade ASA material, hours of machine time per part, the CAD design, prototyping and testing behind the fitment, printer wear and depreciation, and the packaging and shipping from the UAE. You are not paying for a cheap plastic blank. You are paying for a tested, model-specific part made to survive the conditions you ride in.
